The Honda Formula One team’s saviour Brawn is now embarking on a hectic schedule of testing as the team plays catch-up ahead of the season-opening Melbourne Grand Prix on March 29.

London Wasps kept their slim title hopes alive with a hard-fought 21-16 victory against London Irish at Adams Park in the Guinness Premiership.

The champions led from the eighth minute, when a period of intense pressure on the Irish line prompted the referee to award a penalty try.

Everton came from behind to overcome Middlesbrough 2-1 at Goodison Park and earn an FA Cup semi-final meeting with Manchester United.

David Wheater stunned the home fans with a headed goal on the stroke of half-time which Everton keeper Tim Howard parried over his line in agonising fashion.

World number one Rafael Nadal beat number three Novak Djokovic of Serbia 6-4 6-4 6-1 in Benidorm to give champions Spain victory in their Davis Cup first-round tie.

The Australian Open champion’s win gave Spain an unassailable 3-1 lead and David Ferrer, who upset an erratic Djokovic in the delayed opening singles on Saturday, wrapped up a 4-1 victory when he beat Viktor Troicki 6-0 6-3 in the shortened remaining singles in the best-of-five tie.

Phillip Hughes powered to his second century of the match as Australia extended their lead over South Africa to 506 at the close on the third day of the second Test at Kingsmead.

Hughes advanced to 136 not out as Australia surged to 292 for three in their second innings. The opener, who hit his maiden Test ton in the first innings, became the youngest player to score a century in each innings of a Test at 20 years and 98 days old.
